A Month in Tucson

Tucson, Arizona, was a warm winter get-away for Wayne and me. We rented a condo and enjoyed life in this desert city, sightseeing, visiting with friends, dining in restaurants, and relaxing on the balcony with beautiful views while sipping coffee or a cocktail. 

Reconnecting with our dear friends was the highlight. One couple spends summers in Estes Park and winters in Tucson. They graciously invited us to their home for dinner and were excellent tour guides and companions. Another couple, our dear travel buddies from San Diego, spent three fun-filled days with us. Keeping in touch through email, text, and phone conversation is gratifying but doesn't compare to the joy of being together in person.

Estes Valley Quilt Guild's 2020 Retreat

Estes Valley Quilt Guild hosts an annual retreat for its members at the YMCA of the Rockies. We rent space in the beautiful Rams Horn Lodge on the 860-acre Y property just a few minutes from my home in Estes Park. This year our theme was Quilting Cruise, and if you didn't look out the window at the snowy mountains, it felt like we were, indeed, on a tropical cruise. From Thursday morning until noon on Sunday, fifty quilters had a fabulous time sewing, talking, laughing, snacking, and being inspired by the beautiful projects our members were creating.

Birthday Suprise

Wayne and I recently attended a surprise 50th birthday party for our daughter Jen. Her husband and several friends did a great job planning the food, decorations, and entertainment. We enjoyed visiting with friends and family, many of whom we hadn't seen in a long time.
Jen was delighted with the evening, and we were delighted to share in the celebration.

Sunday ~ Snow ~ Sew

Snow is moving into Estes Park. It's 17°F outside, but it is warm and cozy in my sewing loft. I plan to spend most of the day finishing up the set of placemats I'm making for our camper. The fabric is a mix of red, black, and tan outdoorsy prints in a log cabin arrangement called Courthouse Steps. I'm following Donna Jordan's video tutorial. Trail Ridge Quilters had its first sale of the season last week, raising $3000 for our local medical center. My contribution included several felt gift card envelopes, hand appliquéd and embroidered in Christmas motifs. We sold all of them, but because they are so time-consuming to make, I'll work on other projects for upcoming sales.
